Having set up the Scottish Dental Implant Centre in 2002, and having worked with many dentists who place implants in the intervening 20 years, I think it would be fair to say that I am well positioned to pass a credible professional opinion on the standards of clincal practice I have observed.

As I have aluded to, there are many dentists who place implants and then there are those who consider themselves dental implantologists. This difference in perspective, in my experience, is quite significant. It is a rare breed of professional that devotes their practice to achieving excellence in just one aspect of the multifaceted world of dentistry. And amongst those, rarer still, are the few who have taken their skills to levels where they are not only held in high esteem amongst their peers but are called upon to pass on their knowledge and to mentor the next generation who aspire to match their exacting standards.

It is therefore by no means an exaggeration to say Dr Nikolaos Vourakis is one such rare individual who has proven to be worthy of the title “Dental Implantologist”. Who has, time and again, demonstrated excellence in this field through rigorous, extensive post graduate education and examination as well as, most importantly, through decades of clincal experience. It has been an honour to have worked alongside Dr Vourakis and a priviledge to have witnessed first hand his expertise and exacting approach in managing not just the most complex of cases but even those which many would consider routine. The care and consideration he brings to all his patients is exemplary and I would highly commend his skills to anyone looking for dental implant treatment.
