Full Upper Arch Rehabilitation with Implant-Supported FP3 Hybrid Prosthesis

CASE DESCRIPTION:

This case highlights the comprehensive rehabilitation of a patient who presented with a severely compromised upper dentition. At the time of consultation, the patient had only a few remaining maxillary teeth, all of which were structurally failing and deemed unrestorable. These conditions not only affected oral function but also had a significant impact on the patient’s confidence, comfort, and overall quality of life.

Following a detailed clinical and radiographic assessment, a tailored treatment plan was developed to restore both function and aesthetics in a predictable and long-lasting manner. The decision was made to proceed with a full upper arch implant-supported solution. Six dental implants were strategically placed to maximise support, optimise load distribution, and ensure long-term stability of the final restoration.

After a period of healing and successful osseointegration, the restorative phase was completed using an FP3 hybrid fixed prosthesis. The design incorporated a high-strength titanium substructure (bridge), which serves as a durable and reliable foundation. On top of this, a zirconia suprastructure was fabricated to provide superior aesthetics, biocompatibility, and wear resistance.

This combination of materials allows for an optimal balance between strength and aesthetics. The titanium framework offers excellent flexural strength and structural integrity, while the zirconia overlay delivers a highly natural appearance, closely mimicking the translucency and colour of natural teeth and gingiva. The FP3 design also enables the restoration of both teeth and lost soft tissue contours, which is essential in advanced cases with significant bone and tissue loss.

The final outcome achieved a stable, fully functional upper arch with a natural-looking smile. The patient reported a significant improvement in chewing efficiency, speech, and overall comfort. In addition, the aesthetic result contributed positively to the patient’s confidence and social wellbeing.
